With the implementation of the Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Regulations in 2016 it is important for any organisation to understand if EMF may impact on its employees or visitors. This may include the effect of work equipment on medical implants as well as direct effect on the human body.
Electromagnetic Fields Training Courses
Electromagnetic Fields are produced when electrical devices are in use. This includes anything from household items such as portable speakers, all the way up to industrial furnaces and everything in between.
This means Electromagnetic Fields can be found in the vast majority of workplaces, so, like Noise, Vibration and Hazardous Substances, employers need to ensure employees and site visitors are protected from injury.
With The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations coming into force in 2016, for the first time it’s a legal requirement for organisations to assess the risk of Electromagnetic Field exposure to their staff and site visitors.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, employers are required to:
- Assess the levels of EMF’s your employees may be exposed to
- Assess the risk of vulnerable employees, e.g. expectant mothers, employees with implants
- Ensure exposure is below the ELV (Exposure Limit Value) and take action if these are exceeded
- Implement action plans to comply with exposure limits if required
- Provide employees with information and training
- Provide health surveillance where appropriate
The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations 2016 introduced limits, and explains the effects of Electromagnetic Fields and provides instruction of what safety conditions must be met.
Much is talked of the possible dangers of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in both personal and professional life and the media have delighted in reporting numerous stories over the years. But what is the current situation and what does this mean for business.
This course is designed for any responsible person to gain a broad understanding of the Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Regulations in 2016 and the requirements the regulations have.
