Who should attend this EMF Regulations Training?

With the implementation of The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations in 2016 it is important for any organisation to understand if EMF may impact on its employees or visitors. This may include the effect of work equipment on medical implants as well as direct effect on the human body.

Any organisation wishing to manage Electromagnetic Fields should have a competent person to deal with assessments. It is acceptable to contract in this service, but if it is required in-house, this person may be a professional safety officer, a works manager or simply someone who has been given the responsibility for EMF assessments. The course is a great way to formalise previous knowledge of the subject, but is equally suited to those entirely new to the area.

This course is technical in nature, with a moderate level of mathematic calculations. If you’re unsure whether this course is suitable for you, download Module 1 for free here.

If you’d like some more information about the content of the course, please contact us and our training manager would be more than happy to discuss this with you.

Aims of this EMF Regulations Training

The course is designed to meet the requirements of the Electromagnetic Fields Regulations, giving you the knowledge and skills to be classed as ‘competent’ to carry out risk assessments and control measures. The subjects covered vary from the principles of fields and waves, to the identification and management of EMF problems. Practical elements are included to help you with the task of reducing exposure in the workplace and to assist in getting to grips with measuring instrumentation.

Objectives of this EMF Regulations Training

  • To ensure that you have a good understanding of the principles of Electro-magnetism
  • To develop an understanding of the effects of EMF on people
  • To provide you with an overarching insight into measurement instrumentation available
  • To develop in-depth knowledge of the Electromagnetic Fields Regulations
  • To provide you with an insight into the principles of controlling EMF exposure
  • To ensure you can prepare a report to satisfy external inspector/auditor

EMF Regulations Training Course Overview

This course consists of 3 modules which are structured in the following way:

Module 1 - Distance Learning Package

Module 1 is designed to give you an insight into the subject of EMF’s, and to familiarise yourself with some of the terms and concepts you’ll encounter in module two. If you’re new to the subject or to electrical engineering, it’s important that you take the time to study the distance learning pack.

This work gives a good foundation and should be completed before attending module 2.

You can download Module 1 for free here.

Module 2 - Three Day Tutored Seminar

The syllabus for module 2 will include major topics incorporating EMF theory, measurement parameters, EMF reduction techniques, legislation and standards, instrumentation and measurement. There is also a heavy practical element of the course to familiarise you with the techniques of measurement and the fundamental operation of instruments.

Module 3 - Risk Assessment Project

The final module of this EMF Regulations Training Course is undertaken after the Three Day Seminar. You are to complete a Risk Assessment Project using the knowledge and methodology from Modules 1 and 2 to demonstrate that you are competent.

Ideally, your risk assessment project should be produced based on your own measurements on a project of your choice. The report that you produce will be the basis of your certification and will be marked by the course tutor.

On successful completion, a 3 Year Certificate of Competency will be issued, framed and posted to your requested address.

What will you achieve?

Successful completion of the three modules will result in the awarding of a 3 Year Certificate of Competency, giving you the evidence you need to prove your suitability for performing assessments in the workplace.
